You ever feel like your paycheck disappears faster than you can think? That’s not your imagination, it’s by design. There are so many financial traps set for you. From the “limited-time” holiday spending offers to credit card promos, this economy runs on your exhaustion and confusion.
But acuérdate: you’re a cycle-breaker. And part of building wealth is learning to dodge the financial potholes they don’t teach us about in school or in most personal finance content.
So grab your cafecito, because we’re about to chismear on all the little traps designed to keep you broke.

Black Friday? More like Broke Friday
Holiday spending is designed to make you broke. Black Friday deals are designed to create panic buying. You’re not shopping—you’re surviving a marketing ambush.
Sales banners scream “60% off!” but don’t show you the fine print: inflated original prices, junk quality, and emotional manipulation.
Ask yourself:
- Do I actually need this, or am I trying to soothe stress with spending?
- Would I buy this if it were full price?
Cycle Breaker Tip: Set a Black Friday budget before the ads hit. Want something? Add it to a wish list in, and revisit it with a clear head. No impulse, just intention.

Loans that last longer than novelas
Let’s talk about these wild loan offers popping up lately:
- 50-year mortgages?
- No more minimum credit scores?
- No interest for 12 months
Some of these payments plan are just a trap that’s a lifetime subscription to interest.
These offers are sugarcoated as “affordable monthly payments,” and are made to tempt you to overspend. In reality, they trap you in long-term debt that eats away your wealth-building potential.

It’s not always that You’re not “bad with money”
We hear it all the time on how you are “bad with money.” But again the system is designed to entice people to make poor financial decisions. Not to mention the very little financial education that is provided. From payday lenders to TikTok finance bros, this economy profits from your confusion.
Remember, it is not about making perfect money decisions. It is about educating yourself so that you can protect your bag.
Shame marketing is toxic and it’s everywhere
Every financial trap comes with a side of guilt.
“You should know this already.”
“Real investors don’t wait.”
“If you were serious, you’d join this mastermind.”
Amiga, no. You don’t need to prove your worth to these people. Financial decisions made in shame are rarely the right ones.
Look for educators who lead with transparency, not FOMO. (You’re here, so you’re already winning.)
Some of my fave Financial Educators are:
- Say Hola to Wealth with Luzy King
- Wealth Para Todos with Rita Soledad
- RQZA with Lea Landaverde
Real freedom = strategic decisions, not sacrifice
They want you overworked, overspent, and overwhelmed. But we’re not doing that anymore.
You can want both the pan dulce and the financial freedom.
You can build wealth without being scammed, sold to, or shamed.
But it starts with asking better questions:
- Is this decision aligned with my long-term goals?
- Am I saying yes to impress someone, or to build something?
- Is there a catch, hidden fees or terms?
- Do I have a plan to pay this off?
- How can I use this in a way that benefits me and my financial goals?
Create your plan or list of questions that will help you ensure that you make educated financial decisions. If you do make a mistake, don’t beat yourself up. Understand why you made that decision, learn from it and do better next time.
